What is Neurofeedback and How Can it Help?
Neurofeedback is exercise for your brain. Through a series of neurofeedback sessions, you will improve important self-regulation functions that will enable you to improve physiological, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing. Neurofeedback can help anyone from an adult who struggles with sleep disruption or frequent headaches, a child with ADHD, Autism, or epilepsy, or anyone seeking peak performance training such as an athlete or executive. Neurofeedback is a great first line treatment for many symptoms and conditions when individuals do not necessitate more invasive treatment options or for individuals who suffer from chronic conditions that have been minimally responsive to other treatment modalities. Neurofeedback works as a stand-alone treatment or can be done in combination with other treatment modalities such as medication management and psychological counseling.
What Does Neurofeedback Look Like?
During a single 30-minute neurofeedback session, you will painlessly have several small electrodes placed on your head to measure your brainwaves. These brainwaves are shown back to you in a movie or videogame format in such a way that you learn natural self-regulation abilities. Amazingly, almost everyone can do this from individuals who suffer debilitating handicaps to those who are gifted intellectually. While most people notice improvements in their difficulties after several neurofeedback sessions at least 20 sessions are recommended to sustain these benefits overtime.
